Diocese of Delhi Builds Toilets for Poor Migrant Families

On 17th September 2017, Believers Church Diocese of Delhi inaugurated sanitation facilities for six poor families residing in the area.

These families have migrated from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar over the past few years and now earn their living through daily wage labor.

Inaugurating the facilities, the chief guest Mr. Ravinder Singh (village head) said, “These families migrated from other states many years ago and took up jobs as laborers in the construction industry while their wives took up domestic chores. This initiative will not only help them improve their living conditions but also educate them about the benefits of proper sanitation facilities. More than 400 families live in this area. It will inspire the entire community to maintain hygiene and cleanliness.”

One of the recipients Raj Kumar said, “I could not afford to build a toilet for our family. We have been using our neighbor’s toilet and it was so embarrassing for us. We are grateful to the Church for this toilet.”

Another beneficiary named Rakesh, father of five children and working as a sweeper, thanked the church for the help saying, “We did not have a toilet or bathroom. I thought of building a toilet many times, but it was not possible for me. I am so thankful to the Church for making this facility available for us”.

Nineteen sanitation projects are currently being built across Noida, Faridabad and Delhi that will provide hygienic sanitation facilities to migrants and low income group families.
