On 23rd June 2016, Believers Church Diocese of Dehradun conducted a gift distribution program in commemoration of this year’s International Widows Day. To mark the occasion, the Church gave away 40 Sewing Machines and 5 water filters (Pureit) to 45 widows who had no assured means of income but had the responsibility of managing their homes.
Mr. Rajendra Shah, Chief Coordinator of Pradesh Congress Committee, Uttarakhand, was the chief guest. He underlined and appreciated the church for conducting such program. “Believers Church is playing a crucial role in the lives of the poor, needy and widows. Through this Community Development Poverty Alleviation Program, these widows will have a chance to live a dignified life and earn a decent income as well. I am truly honored to be a part of this event,” said Mr. Rajendra Shah.
Also present at the event were Mr. Sadanand Shankar Das, Senior Superintendent of Police, Dehradun, Mr. Subhas Chand, a village chief, and other dignitaries. They too praised the various social welfare activities undertaken by the church among the poor and needy.
The widows were very happy to receive the gifts and they expressed their heartfelt thanks to Believers church for the utility items they received.
