In continuation of its ongoing efforts to bring relief and rehabilitation assistance to the flood and landslide victims, Believers Church Diocese of Colombo held its second phase of relief supply distributions in two severely affected districts in second week of June.
On 9th June 2017, Believers Church compassion team under the leadership of Bishop Lal Vanderwall went to Matara district and distributed relief packets to the people affected by landslide and floods. Altogether 425 individuals received the relief items consisting of dry ration , hygiene supplies, clothes, bedding items, medicine supplies and cooking utensils.
On the same day, relief distribution was held in Kalutara district. Affected people from four villages, numbering around 160, received relief supplies in this district.
Witnessing the relief work carried out by the church, Mr. G. Jayawickrema (a village representative) said, “Besides navy boats that took people to safety and provided them with drinking water and food, Believers Church was the first relief team that came and distributed relief items for the people of my area. We never received such a comprehensive relief package from any other agency before. This is a great relief to all the families who lost everything in the devastating flood. On behalf of the community, I thank Believers Church for bringing aid to our doorstep.”
