In an effort to ensure the health and safety of those who are on the frontlines in the fight against Covid-19, Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Chennai under the guidance of HG Samuel Mor Theophilus Episcopa distributed hygiene kits to frontline workers in Chennai. The distribution was held on the occasion of St. Thomas Day, 3 July, which was observed this year as ‘Indian Christian Day’ for the first time in India.
The distribution program was inaugurated by Honorable Minister Shri. T.M. Anbarasan, Minister for Rural Industries, Cottage Industries, Small Industries and Slum Clearance Board.
Among the dignitaries present on the occasion were Shri Peter Alphonse, Chairman Minorities Commission of Tamilnadu, Shri E. Karunanidhi, MLA, Rev. Dr. Stanley Sebastin, Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Madras and Mylapore, Bishop D. Dayanandhan, Synod Council of Independent churches, Rev. Dr. L. Sahayaraj, Deputy Secretary, TN Bishops Council and TN Latin Bishops Council.
A total of 500 hygiene kits were distributed to frontline workers on this day. The diocese of Chennai will distribute another 3,500 hygiene kits to front line workers in hospitals, police stations, check posts, in a phased manner over the coming days.
