Believers Church Diocese of Bhopal distributed BioSand Water Filters to 200 families in a village on June 23, 2016.
These families depend on manual labor for their survival. The main problem they were facing in their village was scarcity of clean water. Though few hand pumps are there in the village, these pumps have become old and the water that comes from these hand pumps is not potable. As these families could not afford water filters, they used unfiltered water directly for drinking and cooking purposes. Due to drinking the contaminated water, many of them regularly suffered from diarrhea and other water-borne diseases. Yet they had no option, but to use this water for daily use.
To remedy this problem, the church took initiative to provide them with biosand water filters so that they will have access to clean and safe water.
“My wife had been complaining of stomach ache and when I took her to a doctor, he advised her to drink filtered water every day. But, due to lack of money, I could not buy a water filter,” said Rajkumar, a beneficiary. He further added, “Thank you Believers Church for providing me a filter. I believe the filter will be a blessing for my family.”
The chief guest, Mr. Kulshrest (Deputy Inspector General of Police), who inaugurated the program said, “Believers Church has been giving timely help to the needy in the society and its work is tangible. I appreciate the leadership of the church and their contribution to the society”.
