On 13th December 2016, Believers Church Diocese of Agartala, distributed roofing materials and mosquito nets to the storm-affected families in two villages and inaugurated sanitation facilities and Tube Wells for them to improve their welfare and quality of life.
Most of the inhabitants of these two villages are extremely poor and totally dependent on farming to earn their livelihood. They also had no access to water and sanitation facilities. Their condition became all the more miserable when a heavy storm hit their villages on 12th June 2016, leaving 75 houses completely destroyed. Having no place to go, the affected families took shelter in a primary school and stayed there about a month.
In their hour of greatest need, the church came forward to do its bit to help them. After conducting a survey of the two villages, the diocese decided to provide roofing materials to affected families and build sanitation facilities and tube wells in both the places as well.
After the completion of construction work, on 13th December 2016, the church held a special program in this area and distributed roofing materials to 75 families (three and a half bundles of tin sheets to each family) and 500 mosquito nets to poor families and inaugurated 79 sanitation facilities and 3 bore wells.
Shri. Manindra Reang (Minister for Tribal Welfare (TRP & PTG) and Shri. Parikhit Murasing (Executive Member of TTAADC) were chief guests for this event and they inaugurated the sanitation facilities and bore wells, respectively. They also expressed their deep appreciation to the church for taking the initiative to help these villages affected by the storm.
“I was very upset when the storm blew away the roof of my house and I was discouraged not knowing how to repair my house. I could not even think of buying tin sheets because I did not have money. Today my heart is touched by the blessing I have received through Believers church and I am thankful to the church for providing me with tin sheets” said, Tera Pada Jamatia.
