Believers Church Minor Seminary in Dhemaji Diocese observed World AIDS Day on 1st December 2012, partnering with Dhemaji Civil Hospital, Dhemaji Nursing Home and social activists working with commercial sex workers.
Together, they organized a rally with more than 200 people to raise awareness about AIDS. They used slogans such as “Stop AIDS” and “Stop illegal sex”, while marching through the town. The seminary students distributed AIDS pamphlets along the way.
Knowing the stigma AIDS patients can face, the Minor Seminary educated both townspeople and their own students who represent different villages in the area.
A meeting was held in a Bhavan (community hall) where doctors shared with locals about AIDS. The District Joint Director, Civil Hospital Superintendent, Civil Hospital Medicine Specialist and other NGO leaders were present. A healthy discussion related to HIV/AIDS took place, communicating profitable information.
This was one of many programs Believers Church put together to educate the public on World AIDS Day.
