Early in the morning on 15th February 2011, a Believers Church team from Colombo Diocese left for the North Central Province of Sri Lanka with 254 dry ration packets. They were responding to the devastating floods of the month before.
Rev. Fr. Lal, Vicar General, personally traveled with the team to meet the affected flood victims. The team first partnered with Aralaganwila Believers Church to freely distribute 147 food packets to the community’s flood victims. Then the relief team joined Mahadamana Believers Church to give away 107 food packets in that locality.
Most of the people living in these areas are farmers, and they lost all their crops during the flooding. It is very difficult for them to find their daily bread in the midst of such devastation.
As a result, the people rushed to collect the food packets, which offered great help in meeting their immediate needs. Each food packet contained rice, dal, sugar, dried fish, chili powder, salt and flour. The struggling communities were uplifted by the relief supplies.
