Believers Eastern Church Archdiocese of Delhi inducted 14 sisters into the Order of Sisters of Compassion on 16 May 2023 during a blessed service held at St. John’s Believers Eastern Church, Gurugram.
The combined commissioning and dedication service of the candidates, seven each from the dioceses of Chandigarh and Delhi, was held on May 16 and 17, respectively. The Honourable Bishop of Lucknow Diocese, His Grace Thomas Mor Kurilos Episcopa, officiated both services in the absence of the Archbishop of Delhi Archdiocese, His Grace John Mor Iraneaus Episcopa. The clergymen from the Delhi diocese, diocesan staff members, and local believers were present on this solemn occasion.
During the service, the Honourable Episcopa spoke on the greatness of Mother Teresa, saying how she had given up her life of comfort in order to live among the poorest of the poor and serve them.
During the ceremony, the sisters took an oath before the Honourable Episcopa and the congregation that they would remain faithful to God and the Holy Church in fulfilling the Great Commission of Christ. After which, each of them submitted the signed oath to the episcopa. The honourable episcopa then presented each of them with a cross as a mark of their self-denial, love for Christ, and sacrificial life.
The ceremony ended with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, followed by a fellowship meal.
Sister Preeti Sahotra from the Delhi Diocese was excited, saying,”I’d been sick for a long time, and I never thought I’d be able to make it and see this day. Finally, the long-awaited time has come.”
Sister Sonam from Chandigarh diocese was emotional while she shared her testimony a day before the dedication service. She shared gratefully, “I’ve had exceedingly bad experiences in my life since childhood until I joined Sisters of Compassion order. Now I feel secure because of the Lord’s grace.”
In a couple of days, the newly dedicated Sisters of Compassion will be stepping into the villages of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi to serve among the poor and downtrodden.
