On 16 June 2021, Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Kolkata, under the guidance of HG Justin Mor Thomas Episcopa distributed relief items to 150 cyclone affected families in Patharpratima Island in South 24 Pargana District, West Bengal.
Many of these families were still recovering from the aftermath of last year’s cyclone Amphan when disaster stuck them again in the form of cyclone Yaas. Many lost their homes and belongings and are struggling for survival. And the ongoing lockdown has only added to their woes.
The church provided them with dry rations and essential items to ensure that they have enough food to sustain themselves during this hard time.
Hundreds of people were left homeless after cyclone Yaas battered the state, inundating low-lying villages and leaving behind a trail of destruction across the coastal districts of West Bengal. Diocese of Kolkata has been reaching out to cyclone-hit families in the worst affected villages with much-needed relief during this time of crisis.
