On 3 June 2020 Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Kolkata held relief supply distributions at two cyclone affected Islands in South 24 Parganas District of West Bengal where they distributed life-saving supplies to 415 families affected by the Cyclone Amphan.
The people living in these areas were already reeling under the Coronavirus crisis when the cyclone Amphan struck and brought more devastation. Most of these families lost everything during the devastation caused by the cyclone and they are now staying in schools and government buildings. The church was able to bring relief to these suffering families, including 200 widowed mothers, in the form of dry rations, hygiene items, clothes and masks.
The relief team from the Diocese led by Justin Mor Thomas Episcopa first visited Moipit Island where the village panchayat Pradhan, Mrs. Namita Jana and police officials were present at the relief supply distribution.
The second distribution was held at Kankandighi Island. Each family received a relief kit consisting of rice, pulses, white flour, soyabean, cooking oil, bathing soap, face mask and cloth for men and women.
