A community development program was held on 31st January 2011 in the East Singbhum district of Believers Church Ranchi Diocese. Seven surrounding communities benefited from the event. Needy individuals received various income-generating tools such as sewing machines, cycle rickshaws, carpentry tools, barber items and livestock. Through this program Believers Church sought to alleviate poverty and give people hope for a future of dignity.
Distinguished guests included Sri Sukhala Hembrom (Zilla Parishad Adhyaksha), Sri Yahuda Baskey (District President of JVM party) and Sri Maya Muni Soren (Panchayat President). All of the dignitaries appreciated the efforts of Believers Church to benefit the neglected sections of society. The local newspaper Prabhat Khabar also published an article about the event.
Rt. Rev. Dr.Juria Bardhan gave a brief address stating that the primary objective of the community development project is to help people become self-supportive. “Instead of giving a person fish to eat,” the Bishop said, “it is good to teach him how to catch fish.”
As the people received the gifts, their faces glowed with happiness. Like thousands of others throughout South Asia, they have found hope for survival and a productive future.
