Believers Church Colombo Diocese offered help to flood-affected families in central Sri Lanka on 23rd May 2013. Due to two weeks of continuous rain, the people in this area faced a lot of difficulty. All their crops were damaged and many left their flooded homes to camp in nearby places until the water level came down.
Two particular villages struggled when a water path suddenly overflowed, putting many houses underwater within seconds. All the people’s belongings were washed away.
On 23rd May, a Believers Church relief team traveled to meet the flood victims and help in their major needs. They found many parents worried about their children’s education, since all their school books were destroyed by the flood. Many could not afford to buy stationery materials again.
Seeing this need, the relief team organized a distribution of school books and stationery for the children in this place. Area police officers, a local estate superintendent and estate leaders attended the program. The special guests thanked Believers Church for discovering the people’s main need and helping at the right time. “I am very happy that I received new books again,” said a small child named Randhi, one of the 30 children to receive help.
Parents shared this happiness. “I was wondering how I could meet my child’s need,” said one villager. “Thank you all for helping these children and helping us.”
