On 2nd October 2016, Believers Church Diocese of Lucknow organized a massive cleanliness drive in two villages to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti and to contribute to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in an initiative to make the villages clean and waste-free.
The two villages are backward and most of the residents are illiterate. Due to lack of education and awareness, the villagers did not know the importance of keeping their surroundings clean. Hence, the diocese decided to conduct a clean-up drive to bring awareness among them about cleanliness.
Many church volunteers took part in the cleaning program. They removed the dirt and garbage which were piled up in different areas of the villages. They also swept the pathways, bylanes and cleaned the drainages.
After the clean-up drive, they held an awareness program at both the places. They spoke on the importance of maintaining cleanliness and sensitized them towards the need for adopting right behavioral attitudes. At the end of the program, they distributed mosquito nets to 100 children hailing from the neediest families.
