On 6th June 2011, a Believers Church relief team traveled to the Kegalle district of Sabaragamu Province in response to the recent flooding in Sri Lanka. Five Believers Church team members, along with Rev. Fr. Sampath, took initiative to clean wells which were affected by the floods.
First, the team cleaned 17 wells in Dehiovita. Then they went to Awissawela where they cleaned 33 wells in Kurupetha, Maniyangana, Thibiripola and Napawela. The villagers in these areas appreciated the Believers Church workers and were happy to receive assistance.
This work to restore the basic necessity of water to villages is just a small part of the relief initiatives of Believers Church Colombo Diocese.
The diocese has put a tremendous amount of effort into bringing aid to regions devastated by flooding—through food distribution, free relief supplies and assistance in rebuilding affected communities.
