Believers Church Hyderabad Diocese held a “Children’s Parliament Program” on 22nd July 2009. Mrs. Konda Surekha, minister for women’s development child welfare, was the chief guest of the program. Another honored guest was Mrs. Rama Devi, chairman of the Andhra Pradesh state social welfare board.
Over 500 Bridge of Hope children from across the state participated in the event, which simulated a meeting of parliament. They represented ministers and members of the governing body. The “parliament” was split into two groups—one represented the ruling party, and the other the opposition party. In the presence of the special guests, children discussed and raised questions regarding problems faced by children of India today. The topics included education, child labor, school fees, school bus facilities, scholarships, women and children welfare, unemployment, water resources, human rights and much more.
The chief guests were amazed by the children’s performance. “It is a historical event done in Andhra Pradesh through Believers Church,” they said.
Following the main program, Bridge of Hope children presented cultural and national dances. The event closed with the national anthem and a prayer.
Believers Church is working for the rights of many underprivileged and exploited children through Bridge of Hope and other projects.
