Around 10, 000 people attended the celebration where 30 cycle rickshaws, 50 bicycles (for school-going girls), 50 sewing machines and 400 blankets were provided to poor and needy people. Moreover, 50 school bags and track suits were also distributed to underprivileged children.
Most of the beneficiaries are day laborers and farmers who struggle much to make both ends meet.
Kamalabati Reang, 38 years old, was among those who received a sewing machine that day. She has husband and two children. She had learned how to sew from one of her friends, but she did not have a sewing machine to stitch clothes. She longed to have a sewing machine of her own so that she could start a tailoring business and support her family financially. But, since, that did not happen, she used to go to the field along with her husband and help him in cultivation. When she was gifted with a sewing machine, she said, “I cannot express my joy in words. I wanted so badly to have a sewing machine and my long cherished dream has finally come true. With this machine, I will stitch clothes and take care of my family”.
