Believers Church Kolkata Diocese inagurated a new Bridge of Hope center in a red-light area on 24th November 2012. Hundreds gathered for the project center’s inauguration, enthusiastically welcoming special guests with placards and banners.
During the program, the crowd heartily applauded the lighting of the inaugural lamp. MLA Shri Dibyendu Adhikary spoke to the gathering.
“The contribution of Believers Church for the society is immeasurable,” the MLA said, “undoubtedly the starting of a project like Bridge of Hope in the red-light area will really turn the destiny of those children and their families.”
Students from another Bridge of Hope project center presented an outstanding cultural program. Local parents were touched, realizing their kids would soon learn to perform in the same way.
Each child planning to attend the new center received a school bag, clothes, hygiene and school supplies and other necessary items. Later, Rt. Rev. Dr. Juria Bardhan declared the center open as he cut the ribbon at the project center’s office building.
Believers Church through its Bridge of Hope has long wanted to open a project center among the sex workers and slum-dwellers in this area. It envisions little children gaining a bright future, and desperate mothers receiving hope.
Over 60,000 children currently receive education, medical checkups, nutritious food and school supplies through Bridge of Hope.
