Believers Church Patna Diocese opened a Bridge of Hope center among a community of Musahar people on 9th March 2013. The Musahar are among the most deprived and marginalized people in Bihar.
Due to poverty, this community was unable to educate their children. Some children were enrolled in schools, but due to lack of parental support, either they did not concentrate on their studies or they dropped out completely.
Understanding the plight of these children, Believers Church opened a Bridge of Hope center for them. More than 1,000 people gathered for the center’s inauguration. Shri Jagdanand Singh, MP, took the place of chief guest and lit the inaugural lamp.
“Knowledge is the power to eradicate ignorance and poverty,” said the MP. He appreciated Believers Church for initiating Bridge of Hope among this underprivileged community.
Rt. Rev. M.A. Lalachan shared the vision of Believers Church to serve the underprivileged children in society. “The greatest commandment of Jesus is to love your God and love your neighbor as yourself,” he said. “So the divine love is to be sharing and caring for the neediest in the society.” The Bishop explained that Bridge of Hope focuses on holistic development of children so they can grow into responsible citizens and reach their full potential.
Through Bridge of Hope, the villagers have realized the value of education and have begun to be concerned about their children’s future. One hundred children are now enrolled in the center, and their parents encourage them to go and study well.
A father named Suresh said, “This is the first time in our lives that someone is talking with love and concern for us, coming to our house, sitting with us and thinking about the bright future of our children. We will be ever grateful to the church for taking such great initiative to love and bring up our children as good citizens.”
