The Diocese of Patna observed International Widows Day on 23rd June 2014. They distributed saris, mosquito nets and sewing machines among 200 widows.
Bishop M. A. Lalachan addressed the crowd, saying, “This is a day to raise awareness and help widows and orphans around the world who are poor, illiterate and distressed. God has a special concern for widows who are helpless, weak, lonely and discouraged. Honor widows that are widows indeed.”
Shri. Uday Narayan Choudhary (Speaker Legislative Assembly) was the Chief Guest of the program and he said, “International Widows Day is a time to end all discrimination against the widows, to enable them to enjoy their full rights and legal entitlements.” He appreciated the work of the church among widows.
Sis. Jeet, a widow said “I am so happy that I attended this program. No one thinks and takes care of widows but the church helped us by giving the gifts”.
On this International Widows Day, Believers Church is providing poverty alleviating gifts among widows, which can help them to find a livelihood.
