From 8th to 11th April 2013, Believers Church Bilaspur Diocese organized a seminar to train local teachers for Believers Church’s new Healthcare Project. Twenty-seven women attended and Bishop B.K. Lukose inaugurated the program.
The days were filled with different sessions according to the manual produced by Believers Church’s Synod Secretariat. Tilotma, Vrushali and Meena taught the material in creative ways including drama.
The participants learned much during the four days. One woman, Ranjeeta, previously lost her first child. The seminar made her realize that the baby could have lived had she taken care of her health properly while she was pregnant.
“If such healthcare programs would have happened before my first pregnancy,” said Ranjeeta, “I would have saved my child…by taking care of my health during pregnancy. Now I have right information. As I am going to conduct the healthcare program in my assigned places, I will share my experience and teach women to take care of their own health and family too.”
Other prospective teachers were also eager to teach the lessons to women in undeveloped villages. A woman named Vijay said, “I did not know much about the importance of hand washing or childcare. But after learning, I could realize that people in our homes and villages remain sick and unclean because they are not aware of these things. Therefore I decided to educate my family members and villagers.”
The Healthcare Project of Believers Church anticipates educating two million women in different places about basic health and hygiene awareness.
