A Women’s Fellowship team in Believers Church Dhemaji Diocese organized a program for Global Hand Washing Day on 15th October 2012 at the Dhemaji Minor Seminary.
More than 90 seminary students and community members took part in the awareness event. Rev. Fr. Gena (Vicar General) encouraged the gathering about the high value of cleanliness.
Special guest Miss Satiya (Nurse Supervisor in Care Nursing Home, Dhemaji) taught about the importance of washing hands with soap, which leads to a healthy lifestyle. She also explained that due to improper hand washing, people can be infected with diseases including diarrhea, typhoid and respiratory infections.
The crowd watched a practical demonstration to learn how to wash their hands with soap and water. A video produced by Believers Church was also shown to reinforce the lessons of the day.
Most of the people who attended the program were from poor villages where there is a lack of knowledge about caring for one’s health.
Karpunpoli, one of the community women in attendance, said, “I am blessed to attend this program because I have learned a good lesson to wash hand to protect myself and teach my four children so that we may not get infection from our dirty hands.”
Jyotiprasad, another participant, said, “Most of the time I eat food without proper hand washing, but from today I will wash my hand properly before and after food so that I may not get diseases.”
Global Hand Washing Day is an annual opportunity for Believers Church to reach out to Asian communities with health awareness and hygiene education.
