Easter Sunday, the Holy Pascha was celebrated across Believers Eastern Church parishes with much joy, commemorating the resurrection of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
In each parish, the Easter Divine Liturgy began with the joyous announcement of the resurrection of Jesus Christ where the celebrating bishop or priest said, “Christ is risen!” and the congregation responded joyfully saying, “He is risen indeed!” This was followed by procession which symbolizes the original baptismal procession from the darkness and death of this world to the light and the life of the Kingdom of God. It is the eternal Passover from death to life and from earth to heaven. The Easter services culminated with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.
Here’s a closer look at how the Believers Eastern Church faithful celebrated the feast of feasts:
Moran Mor Athansius Yohan I Metropolitan officiated the Easter Sunday liturgy at the St. Thomas Believers Eastern Church Cathedral. H.G. Joshua Mor Barnabas Episcopa was the co-celebrant at the service. In the Paschal Homily the Metropolitan pointed out how Easter is the fulfilment of the plan and promises of God throughout the entirety of the Scriptures, and how Christ’s death was necessary for death – that great enemy of humanity – to be finally vanquished. “The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the one event, and the only event of all, that is absolute proof and certainty of our faith and the promises God gave”, he said.
