Torrential rains started since August 8 in Kerala have triggered the worst monsoon floods the state has seen in nearly a century, killing scores of people, forcing tens of thousands into relief camps and leading to unprecedented destruction across the state.
Thousands of families are left stranded on rooftops of flooded homes without food, water, medicine and electricity. Battling heavy rains, helicopters and disaster management teams in the state have been working tirelessly to salvage thousands from the raving floodwaters.
Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Niranam is on the ground trying to reach flooded areas in order to evacuate marooned families to safety. The diocese has deployed 15 boats with crews to rescue those who are caught up in meters of flood waters in low-lying areas. In coordination with the local authorities the church is also reaching out to and providing emergency supplies to people who are in desperate need of food and water.
