Amidst the ongoing Coronavirus crisis, relief distribution drives by Believers Eastern Church dioceses in India and Sri Lanka continue in full swing. More than 800 needy families received dry rations and 400 people received cooked meals through the relief distribution held on 17 April 2020.
In Diocese of Colombo dry ration packets were distributed to families of daily wage workers who were going through a difficult time due to lockdown. Geevarghese Mor Makariose Episcopa and his team visited door to door and handed over the relief items to the needy. Dry ration distributions were also held at other places.
Diocese of Chandigarh distributed provision items to 150 families with the help of police personnel. The diocese also provided food to 350 people, including those living on the streets.
Diocese of Dimapur helped 155 families with rice, dal, potatoes, oil and salt. This initiative was taken by a parish.
Diocese of Diphu distributed vegetable kits to 300 needy families.
In Diocese of Dhemaji, one priest distributed dry rations consisting of rice, dal, salt, oil as well as bathing soap to 32 needy families.
In Diocese of Udaipur grocery items were distributed to 45 families.
The priest and believers of St. Thomas Cathedral in Diocese of Bilaspur distributed rice, atta, Dal, oil, potatoes, onion, biscuits and nutrela to needy families. Another parish in the diocese distributed dry rations, vegetables and hygiene items to poor families.
Diocese of Banswara, under the initiative of Hope for Children, provided grocery items consisting of 50 kg rice, 14 kg oil and 20 kg poha to the local panchayat office. The village Sarpanch appreciated the church for lending a helping to the needy at this time of need.
In Diocese of Chennai, one parish distributed face masks to 50 people and another parish distributed 50 food packets among the elderly in a colony. Besides this, women believers from a local parish are stitching protection masks and distributing every day. They have stitched 350+ masks and have distributed to the village people.
