Literacy is a powerful tool against poverty. Literacy can empower individuals, communities and societies. Unfortunately, illiteracy still remains a global problem and more than 750 million adults around the world still cannot read and write.
Continuing its vision to bring the gift of literacy to illiterate women and girls, on the occasion of International Literacy Day, Believers Eastern Church dioceses opened new literacy units at various places to help illiterate women learn how to read and write. Awareness programs regarding the importance of literacy were held in remote villages and literacy textbooks and other educational aids were distributed to those newly enrolled in the literacy units.
