As India marked its 71st Republic Day on 26 January 2020, Believers Eastern Church dioceses in India celebrated the big day with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor.
In each diocese, the celebrations commenced with the hoisting of the national flag. The tricolor was unfurled amid the singing of national anthem, which was followed by praying for the peace and prosperity of the nation.
As a way to celebrate the day, dioceses undertook cleanliness drives to contribute to the ‘Clean India Campaign’ initiated by the Prime Minister. Priests, Sisters of Compassion teams, youth, Sunday school children and members of various parishes came together and cleaned various streets, hospitals, police stations, schools and surrounding areas.
As part of the celebrations, meals and fruits were distributed to inmates of leprosy colonies and prisons.
