The Women’s Fellowship team of Dhemaji organized a World Health Day program in the Maskhwua area on 7th April 2012. This community, like many others, has little to no access to medical information. People die from simple infections which are easily preventable.
Around 110 people attended the health awareness program. Information was given about first aid, hygiene and preventative measures. The Women’s Fellowship staff demonstrated how to treat fevers, headaches, stomach pain, insect bites and other common sicknesses.
One participant, Onima Pegu, said, “This program has been very special to me because I did not know how to take care of my children in their sickness. I never listened to doctors’ prescriptions. Whenever they gave medicine, I didn’t care about the time and took it any time I wished. But today I learned how important it is to take medicine at the right time to get cured.”
The health program was eye-opening for many of the women who attended, and they were thankful to the Women’s Fellowship team for organizing the event.
