Believers Church Kolkata Diocese inaugurated Believers Church Medical Center (BCMC) in Purulia, West Bengal on 28th July 2012.
Shri Narahari Mahato (MP), Shri Kamakshya Prasad Singh Deo (MLA), the local panchayat president, doctors and other dignitaries attended the inauguration. The honored guests commended Believers Church’s humanitarian work.
Purulia’s new hospital will provide healthcare to 56 surrounding villages in five panchayats. In addition, thousands of Purulia’s underprivileged leprosy patients will receive free or reduced-cost treatment in the center.
This is an extension of Believers Church’s existing work in leprosy colonies, which began in July 2007. Kolkata Diocese currently provides treatment and rehabilitation to 1,738 leprosy patients in 37 colonies of Purulia district.
11 Sisters of Compassion and 23 other Believers Church workers specialize in caring for the leprosy-affected. They provide nutritious food daily to patients who cannot work, dress wounds and help with household chores that are difficult for those with advanced leprosy.
Believers Church also has one Bridge of Hope center in the area to educate and develop the children of leprosy patients.
Believers Church Medical Center will bring the medical work in Purulia to a new level as qualified medical staff offers their services to the underprivileged.
