Bhondri is a poor village in Uttar Pradesh. Though the village is just 25 kilometers from the capital city of Lucknow, it is deprived of education, health care centers and public wells.
Due to the lack of literacy, people did not know the importance of maintaining cleanliness or getting safe drinking water. Their only source of water was the village pond. This caused frequent physical ailments. The local BioSand water filter leader Anil discovered the urgent need of pure water in this village and took initiative to provide water filters. With the support of Rev. Fr. Reji (Lucknow Vicar General), a BioSand water filter distribution program was conducted in Bhondri on 5th March 2012.
Many dignitaries attended the program including Mr. Mukesh Vajpaye (ADO of Mohanlalganj), Mr. Vinod Verma (ADO), Mr. Nagender Divedi (BSP Youth leader), Mr. Harishankar Sharma (village leader), Mr. Swami Das (Block officer) and Mr. Gaya Prasad (Block Secretary, Mohanlalganj).
Believers Church Lucknow gave 50 filters to the community without charge. Rev. Fr. Reji addressed the public regarding Believers Church and its involvement for the holistic development of society. He added that Believers Church is playing a vital role in the 21st century to uplift the broken and weak of our generation.
Mr. Swami Das said in his speech, “Believers Church is a blessing to our area…It is a village’s basic need that Believers Church has fulfilled.” He was very challenged by the program.
The village leader, Mr. Harishankar Sharma said that the filters were “a very good and useful thing for the village people.” The new water filters will provide pure drinking water to the villagers and improve their health and quality of life.
