Believers Church Kolkata Diocese started celebrating Republic Day early in 2009. On 24th January, a church team showed their love for India by cleaning streets, drains and roads in the neighborhood surrounding the church’s office. The work attracted the attention of hundreds of passersby.
Festivities continued on the 26th with a flag hoisting. Church staff and Minor Seminary students gathered together, proud to be Indians.
At 9:00 am, they started a cycle rally themed “Riding for the Nation”. Two vehicles led 30 people on bicycles through various streets and villages. Each cycler carried a sign with a quotation about peace, unity, love, liberty or another social matter such as pollution or the security of children. The rally made local people think about the need to develop the nation.
The church’s celebration also included sports events which added to the patriotic enjoyment.
Believers Church observed Republic Day nationwide with social work, flag-hoistings and other programs to celebrate and build India.
