Believers Church Delhi Diocese celebrated Christmas in December 2010 by freely providing blankets for street-dwellers. Cold waves from the Himalayas cause winter temperatures in Delhi to fall as low as 3º C. This makes life difficult for the people of the city and even causes death for those unable to find adequate shelter. Many on the streets have only thin plastic to shield them from the cold.
As a result of the bitterly cold weather, Believers Church Hauz Khaz decided to distribute blankets to the homeless.
Late at night, the church members went into the streets with 40 blankets purchased by the church’s Women’s Fellowship. They distributed the blankets to street-dwellers and wished them a Merry Christmas. The recipients were grateful for this act of kindness and their faces were full of joy.
Many communities have received protection from the harsh cold through blanket distributions such as this.
