On 8th July, Believers Church Uttarakhand sent a team to the district of Uttarkashi.
Uttarkashi is a hilly area where people depend on farming and labor work for their survival. The floods in June took people by surprise in Uttarkashi. The drizzling started at night and turned into a heavy downpour. A loud noise was heard, and then houses and bridges started to collapse. The water was so high that people did not understand what to do and where to go. Most of them lost their property, vehicles, livestock and shops.
Even after three weeks, around 80 villages in the district are cut off from the market. They also are still without electricity.
Seeing their plight, Believers Church Uttarakhand reached out to them on the 8th of this month with daily provisions. Each packet of items included Atta (10 kg), sugar (1kg), salt (2pkts), masala (500 gm), oil (2 L), candles (1 pkt), matchbox (1pkt), tent, blanket, bathing soap(2 pcs), washing soap(2 pcs) and set of vessels. Altogether 300 families from seven villages received provisions in Uttarkashi district.
Kalam Singh said,” I lost everything in this tragedy. I had planted paddy crop but now the field is full of water. The seeds have washed away from the field. I am a farmer and I do not have any thing now. But your help is very essential and meaningful for my family. Thank you very much for your help.”
Joyti said,” I lost my cattle. I was living by selling milk but now there is no means of surviving. I do not have anything right now. I have come to receive the supplies. Thank you very much for providing.”
Relief work continues in the flood affected areas of Uttarakhand. This is just one example of how Believers Church responds to natural disasters with practical help and supplies.
