Believers Church celebrated its Episcopal Day on 6th February at the Synod Secretariat. The day began with an early morning Thanksgiving and Holy Communion service officiated by Metropolitan Dr. K.P. Yohannan. He challenged church members to be servants to all, just as Christ was to His disciples.
Then there was a rally comprising more than 1,000 believers and well-wishers along with Believers Church bishops, clergy and Sisters of Compassion. The celebratory march ended at the St. Thomas Believers Church Cathedral.
Here there was a felicitation service attended by community members. Special guests included: Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma Metrpolitan of Mar Thoma Church, Bishop Dr. J.W. Gladstone (former CSI moderator), Bishop Dr. K.J. Samuel (former CSI moderator), Bishop Dr. Thomas Samuel (Bishop of Madhya Kerala Diocese, CSI), Dr. Geevarghese Mor Coorilose, Metropolitan of Syrian Orthodox Church, Dr. Cyriac Thomas (former vice-chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala) and Leby Philip Mathew (YMCA state chairman).
“Believers Church is doing wonderful things for society,” said Metropolitan Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma during his address. Bishop Dr. K.J. Samuel added to this, appreciating Believers Church’s work among children through Bridge of Hope and the church’s massive relief efforts in North India last year. He said that Believers Church had an important part in the history of the church. “You must be proud to be a pastor or bishop in Believers Church,” the CSI bishop said, “because it is so unique.”
The day was a special time to celebrate what God has done through Believers Church since its beginning.
