Believers Church Minor Seminary in Gurgaon, Delhi Diocese celebrated World AIDS Day differently than usual this year. It started when Believers Church staff realized the condition of illiterate villagers who were ignorant about AIDS. The Minor Seminary staff and students decided to personally visit villages and build awareness. So, instead of their usual rally, they screened an AIDS awareness film in neighboring communities. Taking advantage of the opportunity, they also showed a video about the importance of hand washing.
The videos were screened between 6:00 and 7:00 pm as residents returned from work. Four programs were held from 1st to 4th December 2009 in surrounding villages.
Villagers were very thankful to Believers Church for teaching about the hazards of AIDS and the way it spreads. The hand washing video was also beneficial, as most of the villagers did know that lack of hygiene can cause serious illness. In some places, the videos were shown twice by request of the people. The crowds watched attentively and asked questions afterward. By the end of the program, each villager had a fairly good amount of knowledge about hand washing and AIDS.
Believers Church held AIDS awareness programs and rallies all over South Asia on World AIDS Day, promoting health and safety in undeveloped communities.
