A community in the Tinsukia District of Assam had a problem—their water was polluted with iron and sand. Although they tried to filter it, the water never became pure.
This poor community is comprised of Adivasis that work as laborers, tea garden workers and farmers. Believers Church Tinsukia Diocese surveyed the village, discovered its struggle and offered help.
On 29th October 2012, a team from the diocesan office distributed 30 free BioSand water filters to the needy in the village. More than 80 families from different religious backgrounds attended the program with interest. With the new filters, the village now enjoy pure water every day.
BioSand water filters provide hundreds of South Asian communities with easy access to pure water. The health of many households has improved with this safeguard against waterborne disease.
