On 8th September 2011, International Literacy Day, Believers Church Haryana had a rally in Ambala to create awareness about the need for literacy. Around 150 people participated in the march, including 90 Bridge of Hope students, 34 Minor Seminary students, Bridge of Hope staff and local staff.
Rev. Kurian gave a speech emphasizing the need for women and children to be literate. He spoke of the struggle of child labor and the obstacles women face in their lives. He said that although India is now a developed country, the children and women still have a need for education.
Later, Pr. Sachche (Minor Seminary principal) led the rally to move ahead. The rally lasted more than an hour and covered two and half kilometers in Ambala. When the march moved through a slum area, the participants were able to encourage people who were not educated.
Some reporters came and appreciated the rally. The participants had a wonderful time and after the rally, Rev. Kurian prayed for the country and its children and women.
Believers Church is even now making a profound impact on children through Bridge of Hope and also on women through Women’s Fellowship adult literacy classes.
