On 28th June 2014, the Diocese of Nellore distributed income-generating gifts to widows. Altogether 1,020 people attended the program and 500 widows received gifts on that day. The gifts included sewing machines, goats, spray pumps, pulling carts, a passenger rickshaw and an iron box.
Mr. Bonda Umamaheswara Rao (local MLA) was the chief guest of the program. In his inaugural speech he said, “Believers Church is always with poor and needy people, meeting their needs by providing income-generating gifts. Today they are giving 500 gifts to widows, who are neglected by parents as well as by their husbands’ families and facing difficulty to find income.”
Sis. Laxmi, who received a sewing machine, said, “I got married at a very young age, after a few months my husband passed away and I was alone. I am working in a stitching center and earn 50 to 80 rupees per day. I always wanted to buy a sewing machine for myself. Now with this sewing machine I can earn 120 to 180 rupees per day. Thanks a lot to Believers Church for making my dream come true.”
