Believers Church Diocese of Kolkata organized 31 free medical camps from July 1-5, 2016 in commemoration of National Doctors Day, celebrated every year on July 1st in India. More than 4,000 children and their parents were given free medical consultations and treatment through these camps organized by Bridge of Hope.
The camps were conducted in areas that don’t have enough medical facilities. Several doctors from reputed hospitals joined hands with the church to serve the people from needy communities. All these camps were opened with inaugural speeches by presiding doctors, on the subject of health awareness and hygiene. Each camp had a medical team that consisted of an eye specialist, pediatrician, dentist and general physician.
In the camps free medicines were given to the participants in conjunction with local government hospitals and doctors. After close examination, the doctors found that some of the children were having diseases relating to the skin, eyes, teeth, anemia and even a few heart problems. The children and those parents having serious problems were referred for subsequent tests to properly find a diagnosis for their maladies.
The doctors noted that many of the children enrolled in Bridge of Hope did not have any major sickness. They attributed that to the regular teaching given on health and hygiene by the Bridge of Hope tutors and the nutritious food children receive through Bridge of Hope. They expressed their appreciation to the staff for doing a wonderful service to the children and society.
