Believers Church Diocese of Colombo organized a free medical camp on 16th September 2016.
The medical camp was held at a Government School in a hilly area where most of the families work in tea factories to eke out a living. The staff of the church started the preparation work two weeks prior to the camp by visiting houses in the area, putting up posters and banners, giving information about the medical camp to the people in the surrounding places.
A total of 421 persons turned up for the camp. They were suffering from fever, flu, malnourishment, eating disorders, vitamin deficiencies, skin diseases, boils, migraines, urine infections, and wounds. After registration and basic checking of height and weight, free tests such as blood pressure, random blood sugar tests, and body mass index check-up were conducted for them by a team of 5 specialist doctors including 2 senior doctors, 3 government hospital nurses and 3 qualified pharmacists.
The patients were provided with free medical advice by the doctors and they were also offered free medicines. There were more than 25 children who received free medical check-up and medication for various viral infections, skin conditions and other medical problems.
On the same day, the church donated medical supplements, antibiotics, and vitamins to a local medical center there.
“I am very happy to say that we were greatly blessed through this medical camp. We usually cannot afford to go to the general hospital which is about 54 kilometers away, as we don’t have money for transport and buying medicines,” said a 61-year-old lady named Pushparani.
