On 23 June 2021, on the occasion of International Widows Day, Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Lucknow reached out to 400 destitute widows with essentials.
According to the United Nation estimate, there are around 258 million widows around the world and nearly one in every 10 widows lives in extreme poverty.
Here is an account of how the parishes in Diocese of Lucknow observed the day.
In honor of the day, the State Women’s Fellowship team organized a program in Lucknow District where they distributed sarees to 13 needy widows to acknowledge their courage and resilience in the face of adversity.
A local parish in Jhansi District distributed dry rations, essential vegetables and sarees to needy widows in the community.
A local parish in Rewa District distributed mosquito nets to helpless widows of the village.
A parish in Ambedkar Nagar district distributed sarees, mosquito nets and footwear to needy widows.
Similiarly, parishes in other areas of the diocese reached out to widows in their respective communities with dry rations, mosquito nets and other essentials, to mark the day.
