Three Bridge of Hope centers in Sri Lanka distributed school supplies to their students in December 2012. A total of 300 students received free school bags, shoes, uniform materials, lunch boxes, stationery, books and more. The kids had dreamed of having these items, but their parents could not afford them.
The Child Protection Officer of Colombo, Mr. Kusala, attended the first distribution program, held 14th December. Here, 107 children received gifts.
79 students benefited from the second event on 17th December. Christopher, one of the parents, was so thankful. “I am working as a cook,” he said, “and I can’t afford to buy all these items for my three children. And my house roof got damaged and I had no money to mend it. But since my children’s needs were met by Bridge of Hope, I can go for a loan and repair my house.”
The third program, held 22nd December, welcomed three army officers as special guests—Brigadier Chandana Gunwardena (commanding officer), Colonel Rohan de Silva and Colonel Kaldera. The brigadier expressed his gratitude toward Believers Church and Bridge of Hope for helping underprivileged children. He noted that the center was working in a very poor area populated with widows and other downtrodden people.
The children were so happy with their gifts. “I thank you all for this help,” a boy named Mayuran said with a smile. “Lord bless you all for meeting my need.”
Bridge of Hope provides thousands of children like Mayuran the tools they need to rise above poverty and pursue a meaningful future.
