Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Dhakuakhana held a BioSand Water Filter Distribution program in a remote village on 18 October 2019.
Around 300 families are residing in this village. They depend on daily labor for their livelihood.
Prior to distributing the filters, Biosand In-Charge showed the villagers a demonstration of the how the filter works and explained to them about how to use, clean and maintain the water filters.
At the end of the program, BioSand water filters were distributed to 30 needy families of this village. The new, easy-to-use water filters will help these families have access to clean drinking water and stay healthy.
At receiving the water filter, Mr. Minaram Kutum said, “Thank you for giving me this water filter. I will never forget this kindness in my life. As we couldn’t afford to buy a filter, we have been using handmade filter, but that could not purify water properly. I am very grateful to Believers Eastern Church for this precious gift.”
Another recipient, Mr. Dharmendra Kuli said, “I have 4 children and they would often get skin problem because of drinking contaminated water. I hope this filter will help us to get rid of this problem.”
For many districts in Assam, fluoride and arsenic contamination in ground water has been posing severe threat to people’s health. Statistics show arsenic contamination risks the lives of 2.912 million people in Assam. To remedy this situation, Believers Eastern Church provides BioSand water filters to poor and needy families so that they will have access to clean water at home.
