On 23 June 2021, Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Kolkata distributed relief materials to 200 cyclone-hit families in the islands of Konkondighi and Koimuri in South 24 Parganas District, West Bengal through Hope for Children.
Under the guidance of HG Justin Mor Thomas Episcopa, teams from the diocese went to the two islands where they distributed dry ration kits to the families who have been hit by a double whammy — of a second wave of Covid-19 and the cyclone Yaas.
Each kit contained 2 kg rice, 1 kg dal, 1 kg potato, 250 gm puffed rice, 1 packet flattened rice, 1 kg salt, snack items and a bottle of zeoline water purifier. The beneficiaries were so grateful for the help.
Mongol Sardar from Konkondigi island said, “I want to thank Believers Eastern Church for standing with us during this hard time and helping us with dry ration kits.”
Thousands of families have lost everything in the cyclonic storm and are left with nothing to eat as all their stored grain was lost in the storm and floodwaters. Diocese of Kolkata is doing whatever is possible to help the worst-affected families with dry rations and other necessities.
