As part of its initiative to make rural areas open defecation free, Believers Church Diocese of Dehradun inaugurated 20 sanitation facilities at different places in the month of February 2017.
The first eight newly constructed sanitation facilities were inaugurated on 22nd February and the other 12 toilets were inaugurated on the 27th of February. These toilets were provided to poor and needy families that could not afford to build toilets for themselves and had to go out in the open to attend nature’s call. They used to face many difficulties in the nights and during rainy seasons.
During the inauguration of the toilets, many had tears of joy as they expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the church for providing them with the toilet facility. These people are very poor and work as daily laborers. They said, “We do not have anything to give back to you in return for what you have done for us”.
Pinki, a woman beneficiary said, “While going out in the open to defecate, we women felt terribly unsafe and ashamed, but we had no option, then. But, now, we are extremely happy for the new toilets built for us and we will be forever grateful to Believers Church for this help”.
