In the month of March 2014, the Diocese of Ranchi inaugurated nine new bore wells in different locations. Overall, 1,640 people use these bore wells every day.
The villagers depended on nearby open ponds for their water demands. The water was muddy and polluted. In order to get pure drinking water the villagers had to walk kilometers through hilly areas. To provide pure water and to help them to improve their health, the church decided to install bore wells for the villagers.
The villagers were really happy and now they use the bore well water for drinking, kitchen use, bathing and washing their clothes. “I feel so happy now,” a villager said; “our entire struggle for water is over now.”
Pure drinking water can improve the health of many communities and can help to eradicate waterborne diseases. Through the clean water project the church gives access to clean water to thousands of communities.
