A Women’s Fellowship team of Believers Church Jaigaon Diocese organized a program in a local town on World AIDS Day, 1st December 2009. More than 150 women gathered from three districts to rally in the town. Even very old women were excited to participate. The rally lasted from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. In a media interview, Women’s Fellowship members said that they wanted to save their society and country from HIV/AIDS.
The women then went to a red light area and taught about HIV/AIDS. Red Cross staff helped them to teach and led in slogans.
The local Sub-Divisional Officer was very happy with the event and encouraged the women to conduct similar programs in other HIV-affected places. He offered his help in arranging such programs in the future.
This was one of many World AIDS Day awareness events Believers Church organized throughout South Asia.
