On 23rd June 2016, Believers Church Diocese of Anand observed International Widow’s Day by organizing a community development program among poor and needy widows.
The program was held in a place where more than 130 widows live. These widows are very poor and they don’t have proper houses to stay. They have no steady source of income, but have to shoulder the double burden of supporting themselves as well as their children. Seeing their struggle for survival, the Diocese arranged the gift distribution program.
Mrs. Deepika Ben S Patel (Town planning chairmen and Municipal council Member) was the chief guest of this program. Other dignitaries present at the event were leaders Mr. Sanjaybhai Patel, Mr. Rahibhai Patel and Riteshbhai Patel.
In this event, 87 widows were given tin sheets (they received 12 pieces each), sewing machines were distributed to 12 widows, 29 widows were gifted with handcarts and goats were given to 2 widows. The widows were so happy to receive the poverty alleviation gifts.
“No one helped us, but Believers Church, along with giving us gifts they have brought us hope for better future,” said a recipient of the gift.
