Believers Church Diocese of Mumbai helped 13 fire-hit families in a slum on 17th March 2016.
A massive fire broke out in their slum on 7th December 2015 as a result of the explosion of LPG cylinders. Two people were killed and over 1,000 huts were burnt down. Now, the homeless slum dwellers have sheltered in temporary shelters near a forest.
In the month of January, the church was able to help 16 families to construct a small shelter for themselves. And today, the church could help 13 more families by providing them with bamboos, cement, tin sheets and sand which will help them to construct a small house.
“I was really struggling after losing my home in the fire accident. One day, it suddenly started raining and I didn’t know what to do with my three children. We had no place to go to escape from it,” said Pramila, a widow. “Thank you so much for providing us these materials. Soon, I will be able to construct a safe shelter for my children.”
