A local parish in Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Vijayawada reached out to 120 needy families in a slum in Prakasam District, Andhra Pradesh with essential items on 14 June 2021.
Most of the people of this slum live in small, cramped huts. The second wave of Covid-19 and the ensuing lockdown have left them without any jobs or income.
Seeing their struggle for basic sustenance, the priest and members of the parish took initiative and distributed vegetable kits to each family. Each kit contained ½ kg each of tomato, potatao, brinjals, 1 kg cucumber, ¼ kg green chili and spinach.
Ramanamma, one of the recipients, said, “My husband and I are daily laborers. Due to lockdown we are out of work and have no income. We are having a hard time to survive. Thank you for helping us in our hour of need”.
